Our airport tour guide welcomes you at the exit of the airport building and he will give you your travel documents. He will inform you shortly about the most important things concerning your journey and will gladly answer your questions. Afterwards, we take you on a private transfer bus to your city hotel in San José.

Your rental car will be delivered to your hotel after breakfast. You will need a credit card (Visa, Mastercard or American Express) and a valid drivers license from your home country. After all the formalities have been taken care of, your trip through the rich landscapes of Costa Rica begins. Head north on the famous Pan-American Highway. Near Cañas, you´ll be able to pay a visit to the Las Pumas animal rescue centre. There, you can see some of Costa Rica's native big cat species, such as ocelots, jaguarundis, and jaguars. Then it´s on to Liberia. About 5 km north of Liberia, in the direction of the Nicaraguan border, a road branches off to the right, towards Curubande. Take this road and you´ll arrive at your accommodations for the day. This hacienda is still run as a fully-functional cattle ranch, meaning that you´ll be able to take part in the traditional daily life of a farmer in Guanacaste.

If you have an adventurous spirit, you will love river tubing, zip lines thru the tropical dry forest, canopy over the canyon, or horseback riding, and to relax your body and mind just take a bath at the hot mineral springs or take a therapeutic mud bath.

A visit to the national park is highly recommended here! On a hike of about two hours at the Las Pailas sector, you will be able to observe many volcanic phenomena and a magnificent waterfall. On Mondays the national park is closed, then we recommend one of the many other activities the region has to offer.
Today, you´ll head south along the Pan-American Highway, through Cañas and Las Juntas, and up into Costa Rica's mountains. The climate will change completely. Monteverde is about 1´400 metres above sea level. Due to its elevation, nights can get quite chilly. The last few kilometres on the way is a bumpy ride. In the afternoon, you can head down to explore the small town of Santa Elena or go walking on the paths around the mountain hotel. You can also book an optional night tour and get to know the rainforest from a different perspective.

One of the most popular activities around Monteverde is a hike through the cloud forest on hanging bridges which gives you beautiful insights into nature. Take this opportunity today!
The town of Santa Elena and its surroundings also offer many interesting opportunities to experience nature from different angles. Walk over suspension bridges, climb a giant tree, glide silently through the adrenaline-filled forest with a Canopy tour, or simply enjoy the beauties of the area and its surroundings at your leisure.

After breakfast, you´ll leave Costa Rica's mountains behind you. After heading through Cañas and around the beautiful Lake Arenal, you'll drive to the idyllic town of La Fortuna, situated at the foot of the imposing Arenal Volcano. This town is famous for its hot springs, occasional volcanic activity, and gorgeous national park. As long as the weather cooperates, you can catch a breath-taking glimpse of the nearly perfect cone of the volcano from far away.

Your adventure tour begins in La Fortuna. You will be picked up in your hotel with a 4x4 vehicle and will be taken on a mountain road to the first ranch. The adrenaline-rich tour starts after a short hike through the lush rainforest and first safety instructions. From different heights (between 13 and 55 meters) you will be rappelling down 5 times, move between waterfalls and the canyon, climb up a 10-meter high canyon wall, float 25 meters through it, walk through rainforests and enjoy the unique area that will definitely captivate you. At the end of the tour, you will get back into the vehicle and after a well-earned warm shower, you enjoy a typical lunch between tropical gardens with spectacular views of the Arenal Volcano. After the meal you have time to get to know the gardens and their organic cultivation. Watch the many birds and the tropical flowers that can be admired everywhere. After the tour return to your hotel.
You have the rest of the day for free activities. La Fortuna is the point of departure for a number of interesting optional excursions. This includes walks along the lava fields of Arenal National Park, ATV tours, and hiking or riding to a waterfall in the jungle.

Your day begins as you venture deep into the Pure Trek canyon for a thrilling half-day tour. Prepare for a series of waterfall rappels, rock climbing, and the exciting "Monkey Drop"—a true test of your adventurous spirit! You'll get wet, so be ready for an adrenaline-packed experience.
While exploring the canyon, keep your eyes open for the chance to spot toucans, sloths, monkeys, and other exotic wildlife in their natural habitat.

Your journey continues with a drive north of the country to Boca Tapada. Take the well-developed road Vuelta Cooper and then drive to Pital, please follow the signs to your accommodation. You will be impressed by the jungle.

Explore the river shores at the San Carlos River on a boat, your expert captain will show you the fauna of the zone: crocodiles, basilica lizards, turtles and lots of aquatic birds. The boat rides along the river to the border with Nicaragua, and you can get off to explore the remote village of Boca San Carlos.

The adventure continues! After breakfast, you take your car onwards along the same road through Boca Tapada and Pital. At the crossing in Pital, head left towards San Miguel. From San Miguel, continue onwards to Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí, where you´ll arrive at La Quinta de Sarapiqui, a clean, traditional hotel and exemplary project for sustainable tourism. You can explore the area, where you are likely to encounter poison dart frogs, and visit vegetable gardens, where cassava, heart-of-palm, sugarcane, and other exotic crops are grown. The hotel also has a pond, where you can lay back in one of the rocking chairs or hammocks.
Take a frog tour tonight as the highlight of the day. In the dark the colorful frogs are more active and the guide will help you to find them and share interesting information with you. Search for the tiny blue jeans frog, strawberry red with blue pants, you will be surprised.

Today, you explore the undisturbed rainforest from the river. The refreshing river and the wild proliferation of rainforest, with its uniquely coloured plants and its animals and birds, make this tour a delight for the senses. Add in some Class II-III rapids, and you have a tropical adventure jam-packed with new experiences that you´ll remember long after your trip. Before heading down the river, your expert bilingual guide will first make sure that you are informed on all of the safety measures. Then the unique experience begins on the river. You will look out for various native animals while surrounded by dense rainforest. Enjoy the breath-taking landscape on this tour, while you raft down rapids that will get your adrenaline pumping. Afterwards, the rest of the day is yours for optional activities like horseback riding, zip-lining, a chocolate tour, or a bat tour.

You can use the time after breakfast for an optional excursion, or leave directly for the trip to the country's Caribbean coast to Puerto Viejo de Limón. Further south, there are other more peaceful and solitary beaches, with beautiful bright sand that you'll definitely enjoy. Once you get there, be sure to take a walk along the beach.

Enjoy the beach for a little while longer in the morning. Later, you´ll head back through Limón, Siquirres, Guápiles, and Braulio Carrillo National Park, all the way back to San José. The rental car can be returned at the hotel until 4:00 pm. You can still see San José´s main attractions.
